Smokin!!!

Well I accomplished my goal of an outdoor run today. I ran my 5 mile route. It's always odd to run outdoors after doing a treadmill routine for a while. Personally I never feel like I am going at the same pace as I do on the treadmill.

Well today was no different. I always start my run fairly fast. That's something I need to work on. Ideally I would like to just start out easy, and work on the speed as I go. I ran my route in 47:47:89. That's a nwe PR(personal record) for me. I was flying down the street today.

I knew I was going pretty fast after the first 1/2 mile(6:04). What I did then was just let me legs take over. I felt I was pushing things. Once I let the legs take over the running seemed easier.

At the half way point, I saw I was at 22:25. I thought I would just take it easy going home. Afterall this was not a race. So I had my drink, and began to run home. I felt tired like I was going to have to start walking. So I slowed my pace. By the time I got home I was exhausted. But I ran it in the new PR, so I feel good about that.

But for future runs I want to focus on the distance, and let the time work itself out. Any runners out there no how I can make sure I go at a steady pace?

For the week I ran 12.67 miles. That's a light week for me. Considering I am trying to fit in runs in an erratic work schedule, and trying to make sure I'm not hurting my feet, I think it's a good total for the week.

Great work, Charlie - your determination and hard work continue to inspire me.

Speaking of inspiration, I just came across this wonderful post at Bicycling Fools.

If you feel the need for a lift, I suggest you have a look at Deb's post.

Also, you may want to check out a thread called "Wanna Climb Better?" (iirc) at that same board. I have a feeling that some of the information in there might be of use to you in your running (though, as a non-runner, I may be wrong).
