Man It's Hot!

For the last few days Chicago has been hot and humid, with no relief in sight. We are in the 90's here. This makes for difficult outdoor running. I have been running at the gym on the treadmill. This isn't my favorite method of running. I would rather be running to and from somewhere. Still the treadmill is quite a workout. Today I ran 2.5 miles. My goal was 3.1, but it just wasn't in me today. I am pleased with the 2.5. I ran it in 31:23 minutes. Not too bad.

I am going to try to venture more outdoors though. The key is to keep the fluids coming. Lots of water. Also, you can't push yourself too hard when it gets this hot and humid. Typically I push myself very hard, so going easy is not always my forte.

While I was at the gym, Josh asked me if I was mentally prepared for Friday- our training session. I said, "Josh, I'm not mentally prepared to tie my shoes today." He smiled and told me to be ready.

I'm not going to go into details of what is going on. Emotional uproars though do add a new dimension to a work out. I always see my running as my time to get away from life. I was challenged today, but I was able to clear my mind for at least 31:23 minutes.

I'm in a track program on Monday nights. Ran this past Monday when the heat index here in DC was hovering around 100. I sweated buckets and drank about 60 oz. of water.

But I *did* run and got timed at a 13:28 min mile, so you're running faster than me!
