The Countdown Begins

Yesterday I met with the personal trainer, Josh, at my gym for a re-evaluation. I started working out at the gym in January. At the time I was 249 lbs, and had a body fat count of 35%. For those who don't know, I started my weight loss in the summer of 2003, after an extended illness in Ireland. I was 300 lbs at the time.

So how did things look yesterday? I am currently 219 lbs., with a body fat count of 23%! Josh was impressed with what I have accomplished. Next week, he is going to shadow me while I do my usual workout, so he can suggest how I can get to the next level of fitness.

Yesterday was the 1 year mark to the opening ceremonies of the Gay Games in Chicago. For those interested in learning more about the games go to www.gaygameschicago.org . I hope to see several friends and fmaily members there to cheer me on.

I have been running for almost a year. The furthest I have run is 5 miles. I have a ways to go to reach the 10K mark.

Today I did my workout, and ran 1.65 miles. Typically on a workout day I try to run between 1.5-2 miles.

Charlie, I'm teary-eyed at the thought of you doing this. I can't tell you how proud I am of you. You have become my role model.

You are dealing with so much crap right now and, you being you, once you got past the pain you've chosen a productive way to channel all your energies, frustration, and difficulties.

You have my undying support and if it is at all possible, I will be there next year to cheer you on.
