ActivTrax
When I go to the gym for a workout, I do a program called ActivTrax. I love this program, and I think it is ideal for the beginner at the gym, or for those not really used to working out. Here is how it works. First you are evaluated. Weight, body fat, blood pressure, etc., are all entered into a computer. you are also asked to list three fitness goals. Those too are entered into the computer. Then the computer develops a workout program based on that information.
When I go to the gym, I look at my ActivTrax sheet to see what my workout for the day is. The workout consists of a warm up exericse of some sort, resistance training, a series of crunches and finally, a cardio workout.
For example, today the workout focused on the whole body. I had to do shoulder presses, leg presses, leg curls, calf lifts, and my favorite a back extension exercise. After that I had to do four different crunches(15-20 at a time). Finally I ran two miles on the treadmill. today I was did the 2 miles in 24:14:52. That's a treadmill record for me.
As I go along with each exercise, I enter the number of reps I do. I turn in the sheet when I'm done. A trainer enters the info into the computer, and my next workout will be based on how I did in this workout. Usually it means as time goes by, the more difficult the routine. It takes me over 90 minutes to do this workout. I try to do ActivTrax 3 times a week.
At some point I will go into greater detail the various exercises I do.

Hey, hey, a 12-minute-mile on the treadmill for a guy who just started running last year -- not bad!
Do you have a goal for the Gay Games, other than finishing?
Be able to run it in a certain amount of time?
Place?
Medal contender?????? :)
Right now, no real goals. I don't want to embarass myself though, so I am training a little more. The people who will win the 5K will do it in about 20 odd minutes. I can run a 5K in about 40. So there would be a lot of work done for me to be at that level. I'm working on the 10K, but no idea what a good time would be.
