Rest

I am a big believer in resting your body. I think it is very hard on the body to run/workout everyday. You don't want to risk injury afterall. So today I didn't run or workout. When I got home from work, I went and had a mini massage. I had my legs worked on for about 15 minutes. Massage is a very good thing. In my case, it's a great thing.

For me it serves two purposes: first, it works and relaxes the muscles in my legs, which need to TLC. Second, a massage is a great way to close out the world. While today I had a chatty massage therapist(she was very nice), I do appreciate the quiet massage, so I can close my eyes, and just not think for a while.

My massage friends who read this blog can go into greater detail about the importance of massage in your life. I think it is a crucial part of my training. At least...when I can afford it.

Tomorrow, back to training. Friday will be my workout with Josh. Can't wait to see what that will be like.

Of course, I'm excited that you are still getting massages when you can. :) Yes, they will be great for your legs and feet. It will help with everything.

I still get my massage every week and I don't know how I would have gotten through without it.

Rest is so critical too. Your body will work with you if you give it the tools to do so and that includes the time and space to heal and nurture itself.

You're such a smart cookie!

I'm glad I came in here today, Charlie - I was feeling guilty about not exercising every day. When I work a long shift, I really, really don't feel like hopping on my bike or going for a long walk - much less running a couple of miles! - so when I have days off I do a little extra, and so far it seems to be working for me. I'm not losing much weight, but I notice that I can stay on my bike to the top of some hills that would have defeated me a few weeks ago. Today I cycled for just under an hour - came in when it started to get hot out there. I probably should have stayed out a bit longer, but I didn't. So there.

As for massages, I used to go to a lady here in town who did something called Lomi Lomi massage - Hawaiian technique, apparently, complete with music and scented oils and a certain amount of hocus pocus. It was fun, and incredibly relaxing. The only problem was, she lived in a house on the side of a hill (overlooking a lake - very lovely) - so when I came out, I would have to climb a flight of stairs to get back to the street. With knees of jelly, that was no easy feat. ;>) Hmmm. Maybe I should see if she's still around.
