Half Way There

Yesterday's long run was an exhausting 13 miles. Let me clear that up - the last few miles were the most exhausting. As usual I went out too fast. I really have no clue how to slow down a start of a run. I was doing really well for the first 6.5 miles.

I was even ok with all the running clubs zipping past me on the lakefront path. The trip back was the tiring part. I was taking walking breaks, but probably could have gone longer on some of them. I have to say I am not a fan of the gravel part of the lakefront path. I know it is supposed to be better for your legs, but I find I am very sluggish on that part of the path.

The last 3 miles were the tough part. I went from running to jogging to a slow trot. I did stop for a few minutes for a water break(I had run out of Gatorade). Overall I was determined to finish this run, and I am happy to say I did.

I did the 13 miles in 3:04:46. That is a pokey pace for me, but considering the last 3 miles, I think it was pretty good.

Next week is a recovery week. The long run will be about 6 miles. I will work this week on stretching more. My body tells me I need more of that.

Wow, 13 miles! I can't even imagine it.

My runs have been punky too. For some reason, the last 2 days my calves have seized up on me. I need to do a longer stretch session today to see if I can work that out.

It can't be the shoes -- they've only got about 120 miles on them!

But the weather here is stunning -- it's been in the 60s the last couple of mornings and got up past 80 yesterday. Everything is blooming. It makes for a very pleasant morning run. :)

And I'm booked for Chicago for the Shamrock Shuffle! I'll slow you down, I promise. :)
