Cold and Snotty
I think the title of this entry sums up my long run yesterday. The goal was to run 10-12 miles. The morning was a cool 32 degrees. I was doing fairly well, running along the lake, towards the city. The problem came at the 4.5 mile mark.
At this point I was along the lake, watching the waves crash along the shore. Had I continued on the path, I would have hit a narrow part of the path where the waves would have hit me. I was not anxious to have freezing water hit me, so I turned around to head back north.
It was at this juncture the 10-15 m.p.h. wind I hadn't noticed at my back, was not smacking me in the face. Brrr! It was frrrreeeezing! I pushed on though. My face was not liking me much at this point. I especially hated all the snot coming out of my nose. (Note to self - thorw gloves in the wash today).
I made it back towards the park portion on the running trail, and the wind was not as fierce. I got to an underpass at the 7 mile point, and I accidently stepped on my own foot. Slight pain, but enough to make me yell, "Oh SHIT!" I startled another runner, who came over to see if I was ok. I told her I would be fine. She smiled and went on her way.
I walked a little bit, then tried to run again. My left foot told me if I persisted, it would hurt, so I ended up walking the rest of the way.
Because I was not longer running, I was beginning to cool down. Not good when the wind is hitting you. I was frozen by the time I got home. I did not do a good job of stretching after the run(being frozen and all). So I was sore most of the day.
I could easily be down on myself for not running my goal, but it sure felt like I ran that and more. I'm pleased I ran what I did. There is always next time.
